Vanessa Raw, former professional triathlete, reveals artwork created to inspire ‘home support’ for Team GB at Tokyo 2020
Purplebricks, the Official Estate Agent of Team GB, commissions bespoke artworks by elite sportspeople to boost support for athletes at the Olympics this summer
16th February 2021; Purplebricks, the UK’s largest estate agent, today reveals the first piece of artwork for its Home Support campaign, which brings the power of the nation’s home support to Team GB. ‘United’ was created by former professional triathlete Vanessa Raw, who spent 11 years competing before becoming a full-time artist in 2019.
In a campaign called ‘Home Support’, Purplebricks has commissioned unique artworks to encourage the nation to get behind Team GB, and to help spur them on to glory at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Vanessa was chosen alongside professional boxer and Rio 2016 silver medallist Joe Joyce, and former rugby player and mouth artist Henry Fraser, to create artworks ahead of the Games. The artists were selected due to their roles as accomplished sportspeople past and present. The three finished pieces will adorn Purplebricks For Sale and For Let boards up and down the country from 22nd March. The public will also be able to own one of 2,020 limited edition prints.
Home Support encourages people to keep the home fires of support burning with the same intensity we have seen since London 2012. This support is especially needed in 2021, where the Games follow a year like no other.
Speaking about her desire to encapsulate a feeling of ‘togetherness’ in her portrait, Vanessa Raw comments, “After such a fractured year, I was keen to galvanise support for Team GB athletes at this year’s Games and show them that the nation is behind them. From my own
experience in competing abroad, athletes need to feel that they have a united front at home, supporting them. I wanted to paint something that represented people coming together after a fractured year, to gather up support and help Team GB athletes feel the same support they did at the Games in London and Rio. It's going to be fantastic to see it on Purplebricks boards.”
On seeing Vanessa’s painting for the first time, Team GB diver and Olympic bronze medallist Dan Goodfellow said, "Home support is more important than ever at the moment and it's going to be vital for athletes in Tokyo. Vanessa's painting looks amazing. The Union Jack is so lifelike - wearing the colours of Great Britain is the biggest honour of my career and I dreamed of doing it all my life. The painting of the crowds give me flashbacks to Rio and the experiences we had there. There's a lot of optimism and hope in the painting that one day, we will all come together again. I'm sure seeing it on Purplebricks boards is going to inspire the British public to get behind us.”
Ben Carter, CMO Purplebricks said, “Unveiling the first of the three pieces of artwork for Home Support is an exciting moment. We are delighted that Vanessa has created such a beautiful and memorable piece of unique artwork. Her impressive image really captures the unifying spirit of the Olympics. We all recall how the Olympics brought the nation together in London 2012 – and this is something we very much hope will happen as the nation unites in getting behind the sportsmen and women of Team GB. We’ll soon see Vanessa’s painting on Purplebricks boards up and down the country, which will hopefully evoke that same level of anticipation and team spirit.”
